Jott it down over the holiday
Yes, you're taking a day off (at least, most of you are).
But you know damn well your brain never shuts down. And sometimes it comes up with ideas in the oddest places.
So bring a trusty (tiny) notebook and pen along to the BBQ. And/or program Jott into your phone. It's a free service that lets you dial a toll-free number and leave your message, which Jott then converts to text and emails to you! I have it programmed into one of my speed-dial numbers for E-Z retrieval. It doesn't get the whole message right, but there's enough that I can make sense of it when I'm near a real capture device.
Have a safe and happy holiday, and we'll see you on the 5th!

Thank you! This has got to be the coolest web-based program for a writer EVER. I tested it and it works well enough to get the job done. No more looking like an idiot talking into a tape recorder in public. I can take it running with me and work while I run. And I'll simply look as if I am talking on the phone to a friend. A side-benefit is it forces me to pay attention to how I'm speaking and not slur my words and say "uh." A speaking coach and time-saving device all wrapped up into one. Very cool!

You're welcome, Kelly! Hadn't thought about that side benefit of camouflage. I do like having to carry one less device!

Thanks for sharing this, Colleen. I've already got it set up. I've tried leaving messages for myself on my home answering machine, but I sure hated to hear my voice played back! I see that's an option with Jott, but I'm glad I don't have to go through that torture.

You're welcome! I did the voicemail thing w/ my cell phone, but in addition to hating my voice, I hated all the time it took to listen to the messages.
